My name is Estelle Bah, and I would like to think of myself as a TikTok guru. I joined the app when it first gained traction in November 2019, since then I have averaged a minimum of two hours a day spent on the app, and most importantly, I played a major role in bringing TikTok to PMG. Now you know why I think you should listen to me, but here is why you will want to:
- There are 1 billion people on TikTok.
- You can reach a mostly Gen-z audience.
- You can master the algorithm and guarantee viral videos.
- You can make MONEY.
TikTok is a video app where members can watch and share videos. Originally, only 15 second footage could be filmed, now you can film videos anywhere from 3 seconds to 3 minutes. There is not just one type of TikTok. Some pages focus on “storytimes”; others dance and lip sync to videos; many lip sync to trendy audios and add captions; but mostly people do a mix of all of these.
So where do businesses fit into this?
Basically, your business fits into TikTok anywhere you want to. On this platform, your goal should be to build your brand, tell the story of your mission, and present your services in the most lighthearted way possible. A viral platform, a TikTok post is usually one that is either funny or one you did not know was a promotion.
How do you get started?
Start by mimicking the trends or using the audios that pop up on your “For You Page” or “FYP”. TikTok’s algorithm will then suggest videos to its users that are similar to the ones they have already interacted with. Your videos are more likely to be recommended to other users if you use a popular sound or trend that many people interact with.
Make a TikTok account and start uploading videos. With TikTok, it is about quality and quantity. I have added some resources at the end of the blog to help jumpstart your influencer career!
